Thermal Compound Round-Up

Quote:

"Last week, I happened upon a forum thread about thermal compounds; asking which was best for a variety of scenarios. This got me thinking that maybe it was time to take a look at the various cooling solutions available on the market.

After a visit to Newegg.com, and spending $85, I now have more syringes than Amy Winehouse. Today, we'll cover every thermal compound we can find (more than 20), and explain things like thermal resistance, conductivity, and which thermal compound is the best choice for you. While the performance results may not be dramatically different (which is actually a good thing), we'll dig a little deeper and look at things a bit differently."

33-Way Thermal Interface Material Comparison

http://benchmarkreviews.com/images/reviews/cooling/33-Way_TIM_Comparison/frontpage.jpg
DESCRIPTION: Benchmark Reviews has seen a lot of products made for the purpose of delivering better performance. Some of these products exist for overclockers and enthusiasts, and often times help deliver performance out of otherwise tame hardware. Other products sometimes only deliver the empty marketing claim of improvements. Of all the products we have seen and tested, one particular category always stands out as the culprit for over-hyped promises: Thermal Interface Material (TIM). Of all the heatsink compounds and thermal pastes made and marketed, they must all only concentrate themselves to deliver the simple function of mating the CPU to the cooler with the highest thermal conductivity possible. Of course, some work better than others, and this is exactly what Benchmark Reviews intends to discover. Please join us for a comprehensive testing of 33 different TIM products.

Hi Bulldog!
For your next review, there are some new compounds that are better performing than the ones tested at the HardwareLogic. For example, the Shin-Etsu G-751 has been on the market for over 7 years! I would be happy to give your readers a head's up on the latest and greatest.

Best regards,
David

I was AFAIK the very first Clocker to tout Shin Estu..MTG will attest that when I 1st published results ..EVERYONE him included ( Wizard- Showbiz94-OPPAINTER-Macci-Digital Jesus) all thought I was shilling a product or my results were biased..I had 4 tubes that went to AZ-TN-CA and The UK ...but not before I did a little benching at Mad Onion...when the 5- 6 people got the stuff and found out it really worked as I had told them all everyone was like Holy $hit... I have tried others over the years just to make sure but in all my PC's and all that I build I still use Shin Estu..I remember exactly how I found it and why I tried it..a story for another day...Oh BTW do I see u for my Royalty fees

I can honestly say, I do remember when bulldog got it, we all talked about it on the chillies forum and he sent some over. We tested it, we loved it, we wanted more and more of it. We got some stockists in the UK to take it up and it grew from there for the UK and US had bulldog biting their asses to stock it.

Bulldog was the first and yes we all thank him for it, and of course David for creating such a worth while paste!!

not worthy

Then making it even better!!!

We used it to get some fantastic records on clocking, I know bulldog got some truly phenominal records on it.

Love the product!

I remember when Axle first wanted to try Shin-Etsu G-751. My boss told me not to sell material to be tested (because he felt these tests were out of our control) so I remember being a bit hesitant. Even today, it is difficult to get Shin-Etsu to offer samples for testing; but I am sure glad I sent that material out - my boss never did find out ...

By the way, I never manufactured Shin-Etsu material. I have no idea what their formula is as they are very secretive (they manufacture in Japan while I was in sales in the US). Bulldog - take a look at my material compared to SE. Mine is a bit more thixotropic while theirs is a bit more creamy (mine performs better too)

Good luck in the testing!

"Recently ago we looked at some liquid pro, a couple of liquid metal pads. And now it's time to see some more competitors and put them all in one round up. We've received a bunch of Tuniq TX2, Arctic Cooling MX2. Arctic Silver is also in the pool with their award winning AS5. And we include Coollaboratory's Liquid pro and Liquid metal pads to make the circle complete."
